Endeavor Composites, Inc. a small business in Knoxville, TN is founded upon the spirit of innovation brought by Manufacturing USA and its institutes, especially IACMI-the Composites Institute. The core technology of Endeavor Composites, Inc. is based on producing defect free fully isotropic Carbon Fiber non-woven reinforcing fiber mats using long fibers (1 to 1.5 inches) at low cost and high speed of production. These mats offer a zero-waste solution for advanced composites production in the automotive sector, such as battery casings, access panels, under the hood components and other products. The zero-waste solution revolve around 2 approaches: 1) the capabilities of reprocessing any fiber trims into new non-woven fabric; 2) the ability to produce the non-woven fabric by usage of virgin or/and recycled/reclaimed fibers. In addition to the ability of processing long fibers, Endeavor Composites, Inc. unique system can process commingled nonwoven fabrics containing multiple types of fibers, such as carbon, basalt, Kevlar and natural fibers like bamboo, jute, hemp and any thermoplastic fibers. These commingled nonwovens been proven to have an aerial weight standard deviation bellow 3% with high repeat-ability to provide excellent quality control and ease of manufacturing with the added performance benefit of the fiber length and its ease of forming complex shape composites. Endeavor Composites, Inc. was able to scale up its technology thanks to the Innovation Crossroads grant via the Advanced Manufacturing Office of the Department of Energy. Through collaboration with Oak Ridge National Lab and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Such collaboration gives Endeavor Composites, Inc. a great leverage of accessibility to one of the best research assets in the nation to mitigate R&D risks and speed up the research side of the work.
