ENTONEXUS was founded in early 2025 with a vision to pioneer high-tech, automated production of sustainable, insect-derived protein for human consumption. As ENTONEXUS, we want to make a difference in the way we produce food in a world where current agricultural practices are not sustainable. Agriculture drives approximately 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions, consumes 70% of freshwater and relies heavily on land-intensive farming. We are convinced that industrial scale production of insect derived protein is feasible and that this can be done sustainably. ENTONEXUS will produce protein that requires a fraction of the water, feed and land compared to protein derived by traditional farming practices and with a significantly smaller carbon footprint. The strategy is targeted at the human food chain from day one with a target production of 10,000 tonnes/year in five years. This will make it by far the largest facility in the UK. A modular, climate-controlled production set-up will facilitate a phased production ramp-up whilst we learn, recruit the team and develop our systems, people and processes. Our routes to market are initially targeted at a limited set of companies with proven uses of insect protein for human consumption and the use of frass (‘insect manure’) for horticulture and organic farming. As we demonstrate success, we will move to the next phase; a material scale-up targeting industrial use of protein in the human food industry by collaborating with large product developers and retailers. We will establish business partnerships with organisations and individuals to develop carbon neutral production processes, optimise recycling of our input and output materials and to collaborate with universities to support much-needed research in insect farming and uses of frass.
