About Environment & Culture Partners
Environment & Culture Partners (ECP) is a non-profit climate agency on a mission to accelerate environmental leadership of the cultural sector. The global cultural sector has a significant role to play in responding to the climate crisis, but many are often overwhelmed with information and ambiguity, and see no clear path forward. We empower museums, zoos, gardens, aquariums and historic sites to implement evidence-based environment and climate solutions by providing the knowledge and skills needed to influence change, the partnership needed to do the work, and the voice to advocate for culture in every climate conversation. We always do this work in collectives: groups of institutions that are changing their practice or learning new practices, or teams of professionals and the public who are working together to understand new issues and develop solutions. This means helping other sectors understand the work of the cultural sector, and supporting cross-sector/multi-sector partnerships for smarter solutions. The rate of change when working with only one institution at a time is much too slow for the climate crisis. Our work spans three pillars: Capacity Building, Engagement, and Representation. Flagship programs include the Frankenthaler Climate Initiative, Culture Over Carbon, Climate Resilience Resources for Cultural Heritage, Caretakers of Wonder, and leading the Cultural Sector of America Is All In. ECP was founded in 2021 by Sarah Sutton, CEO and Stephanie Shapiro, Managing Director.
