About EPIC for Girls
EPIC for Girls researches, advocates for, and funds innovative and long-lasting solutions that address inequities in sports for girls of color. EPIC’s vision is to see Omaha as a thriving sports community that values girls of color in sports. Through our grantmaking, advocacy and public policy work, EPIC strives to strengthen the quality, competitiveness, and accessibility of sports for girls of color in Omaha. EPIC's target population is nonprofit/community-based programs serving girls, primarily girls of color in 3rd thru 12th grade, in under-resourced communities. Participants also include students residing/attending school at Omaha North, Omaha Benson, Omaha Central Omaha Northwest, Monroe Middle School, Nathan Hale Middle School, McMillan Magnet School, and Morton Middle School. EPIC impacts girls in under-resourced and under-served areas through sports, safe spaces, access to quality training and development, equitable access to opportunities serving as a change agent to empower girls in sports. EPIC funded partners provide a culturally specific approach to encourage girls, mainly girls of color, to gain confidence, engage socially and excel as leaders in their communities. EPIC exists to assist partner organizations with accessing equipment; safe places to practice, play, and compete; financial support; leadership development courses; mental health training; and organizational capacity building.
