Established 2015. The Enterprise Precinct and Innovation Campus (EPIC) Westport is a privately owned economic development hub. The business is tasked with prototyping and developing a whitelabel solutions for regional economic development and specialises in developing new digital industries. EPIC Westport delivers a wide range of services including startup programs, with more than 90 businesses participating over three years. It has provided services to hundreds of new and existing businesses across the West Coast, doubling the size of the digital technology industry in the region. The Business Hub’s commercial property division is near capacity with more than 20 businesses across two floors, with a wider membership base using the co-working, boardroom and event spaces with thousands of unique visits every year. EPIC Westport champions new digital industry with a mission is to create a sustainable competitive advantage for the West Coast region by becoming a world leader in Blockchain technology. The Blockchain Centre, opened in 2018, focuses on leadership, research and training, where blockchain and other new technology businesses are incubated. The centre brings blockchain talent and investment to New Zealand and runs a business incubator program focusing on commercialisation and innovation, connecting blockchain business with investment in New Zealand and globally. It hosted, at the time, the largest South Island blockchain conference in July 2018 and launched New Zealand’s first blockchain enabled game PurriPets in early 2019. EPIC Westport is part of the Ruby Play Network that powers industry-busting gaming businesses through its Ruby Play Rewards Token. EPIC Westport will be the core location for Ruby Play blockchain research and development.
