About Estonian Public Broadcast

Estonian Television is the biggest public service television channel transmitting in Estonian. It started broadcasting on 19 July 1955. For decades ETV was the only television channel for Estonians. ETV’s task is to promote and propagate Estonian national culture and to record, introduce and preserve its best achievements; and to take into consideration the interests of minority groups. ETV programming is varied offering interesting programmes for all age and interest groups. ETV has the most popular daily news magazine Aktuaalne Kaamera, the programmes include educational, science, culture, lifestyle, current affairs, entertainment and children programmes and strong sports programmes. ETV also offers a high quality acquisitions programming with an emphasis on the European production. In August 2008 was opened ETV2, the second public TV channel in Estonia. ETV2 is only digitally transmitted. VIKERRAADIO, the main radio programme of ERR, was born on 3 April 1967. Vikerraadio can be listened to all over Estonia for 24 hours a day. Vikerraadio offers to its audience comprehensive information programmes, opportunities for self-education and broadening one’s horizons, as well as entertainment. In Vikerraadio, music of Estonian origin is preferred. Many broadcasts of Vikerraadio are produced at the regional studios of ERR.
