About Ethiopian National Project
The Ethiopian National Project works tirelessly to ensure the full and successful integration of Ethiopian Jews into Israeli society. ENP provides social and educational opportunities to help Ethiopian-Israeli teenagers realize their full potential while providing parents and lay leaders with support so they can play an active role in their community's success through its SPACE program- School Performance and Community Empowerment. Through SPACE, ENP takes a “bigger picture” view of the cultural, social and emotional challenges faced by Ethiopian-Israelis that hinder their advancement. Today the Ethiopian National Project serves over 6,000 highschoolers and their parents and lay leaders in 32 cities throughout Israel. Two key initiatives are at the heart of ENP SPACE: -Holistic Afterschool Support: Provides supplementary hours of instruction to improve students' achievements in core subjects, increases motivation to learn, improves self-confidence, heightens aspirations and provides a nutritious lunchtime meal. - Leadership and Empowerment: Training to provide skills to Ethiopian-Israeli parents and leaders to enable them to take action to engender change within their families and community. ENP is unique as it involves the Ethiopian-Israeli community as leaders in the organization at every level. It also strictly adheres to the importance of external evaluations and constantly learns from these evaluations, which are published on an annual basis. ENP's work serves to prevent the formation of a black underclass for this special minority population in Israel.
