The European Security and Defence College (ESDC) is an autonomous EU Body that provides training and education in the field of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), within the broader framework of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). The provided activities focus on joint mission preparation (civilians/ police/ military/ experts/ diplomats), and a clear understanding of all stages of the conflict cycle and the relevant EU tools (including mediation, conflict analysis, early warning. By doing so, the ESDC complements the national efforts in the field of training and education. The ESDC is organised as a network bringing together civilian and military institutes, colleges, academies, universities, institutions and other actors dealing with peace security and defence. The ESDC works under the overall responsibility of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. The ESDC’s Steering Committee, which is composed of one representative appointed by each Member State, provides the overall political guidance. The Executive Academic Board ensures the quality and coherence of the ESDC training activities.
