About Evia Learning

Evia Learning is a publishing company dedicated to creating transformative college-level textbooks for the German and Spanish language classrooms. Our German language textbooks include: Auf geht's! - beginning level Weiter geht's! - intermediate level Our Spanish language textbooks include: Ritmos - beginning level Rostros - intermediate level Our approach: We believe that when communicating with people from different backgrounds, cultural skills are just as important as language skills. We set cultural learning on equal footing with language learning, seeing language and culture as inextricably bound. All materials, as an authentic form of content-based education, are about real people, using materials sourced through interview we conduct, and seek to reinforce the broad cultural understanding necessary to engage with people from German and Spanish-speaking countries. What sets us apart is that all reading and listening texts in our books use only real, unscripted, normal-speed language (drawn from hundreds of interviews conducted by us), thereby providing students not only with a more accurate, nuanced with of the people and culture, but also preparing students for real encounters in the target language. For our textboooks, we focus on those concepts and activities that work best in print, and use our web-based platform to provide an extended learning environment with audio, video, and interactive activities.
