About EWA - European Women's Audiovisual Network
When EWA was founded in 2013, only one in every ten box office hits was directed by a woman in the EU, and stereotyped depictions of women were rife throughout all audiovisual media. Our groundbreaking report, 'Where Are The Women Directors?' kickstarted the conversation about the sheer scale and persistence of the gender gap in the screen industries. Over a decade later, the number of women working in the screen industries is rising, albeit slowly. EWA Network is still determined to redress the current gender imbalance in the audiovisual sector. We aim to build a more gender-balanced, inclusive and diverse audiovisual sector, with zero tolerance for discrimination, bullying or harassment. We connect women professionals with one another through our face to face networking events. Crucially, we support female talent through our training and mentoring programmes, regular online masterclasses and online hangouts for our members. Membership is open to all professionals working in the European audiovisual sector who support our aims: male, female and gender non-confirming.
