About Exposed Arts Projects
We act as a cross-disciplinary research hub - or a 'think-and-do tank' - that brings the UK-based artists, scientists, philosophers and other researchers together for discussion and collaboration. Each year we form a group of specialists from various fields to interrogate an important subject matter: i.e. in 2018, we interrogated the modern ways of collaborating, its benefits and downsides; in 2019, we will look into the question of 'power relations' in the contemporary world; in 2020, we will address the ethical dimension of development and research in artificial intelligence. We provide the physical space for the researchers-collaborators to meet up - and assist them with organising events, producing publications, and bringing to life other kinds of articles that emerge in the course of their research. We work to educate London audiences about research-based contemporary art - via engaging local people in development and delivery of public programmes together with the professional artists and researchers. Specifically, we facilitate two kinds of engagement: volunteering – enabling the members of public to work together with artists and researchers to acquire practical skills and knowledge in art making, art theory and event organising (i.e. taking part in making of a survey/concept-driven art exhibition); and public participation – recruiting people to take part in the artist-run events and learn via direct participation (i.e. reading groups, research days and workshops, seminars, discussions, etc). In line with our mission to make art-education accessible and inclusive, the artist-run activities and events, facilitated and hosted by us will be diverse in contents and format – to be relevant to people of different age, level of education, and background.
