What is Cognitive Vision Training (CVT)? CVT, sometimes referred to as Neuro-Visual Training (NVT) or Vision-Based Speed-of-Processing (VSOP) Training, are exercises that develop information processing ability, specifically visual information. Regular athletic training consists of drills conducted in accordance with the provided instructions, i.e. the athlete knows exactly what is required before the drill begins. Cognitive Vision Training (CVT) is when the athlete does not know exactly what is required when the drill begins, and must accurately process visual information during the drill to be successful. For example, if the athlete sees “A” during the drill then they must do “X”, if the athlete sees “B” then they must do “Y”, etc. CVT exercises the mind’s ability to process visual information. This is done by introducing unpredictable visual information during the drill that provides instruction on what is required to complete the drill.
