eyeroll is formally a publication that started as a kickstarter in 2019 but has grown into a universal community that shares a love for art and celebration. Our mission statement: “Most literally, an eye roll is a non-verbal form of communication that clearly represents disdain, disapproval, or boredom. An eye roll is a universal experience and the common ground on which eyeroll is built. Everyone is welcome here because the act of rolling one’s eyes conveys a sense of human likeness that is worth acknowledging and celebrating. An eye roll leaves room for interpretation, depending on its tone. Our tone is all about leaning into and growing from experiences that make your eyes roll. We hope to create a community where we can talk and think about the wonders of life – from the beauty we all possess to the deeper, less celebrated parts of ourselves.” As for its creators, we are a two-person team that has big dreams. We, Yukari and Addie, met as freshmen in college in an introductory art class. Since then we have been best friends and journeyed through the ups and downs of life and art-making together. We started this project because we wanted to do something big, and share it with the world. We conceptualize and execute the shoots together, with Yukari directing our models and Addie photographing. It is a true labor of love, but eyeroll is our baby.
