About Eyes on the Back Door
Eyes on the Back Door is a documentary currently in production featuring the hottest bands in the jam scene. It strives to depict artists both on stage and backstage, giving the viewer an intimate view on the world of improvised music. Production began on the summer of 2008 festival circuit at some of the country's premier music festivals such as Rothbury, Bonnaroo, Wakarusa, 10,000 Lakes, and Camp Bisco, just to name a few. Some of the bands featured so far have been The New Deal, The Egg, The Disco Biscuits, Perpetual Groove, 2020 Sound System, Tea Leaf Green, Zach Deputy and many others. The media tends to pigeonhole jam bands into one giant cliché, writing them off as a dying trend not to be taken seriously. Eyes on the Back Door aims to bring a new sense of legitimacy to the scene, and its target audience is not only the fans within this scene, but fans of music in general. We plan on showcasing the bands everybody knows but also up-and-coming bands deserving of national exposure. Bands today have a hard time making it big, especially in this economy and struggling music industry. It seems as though people have stopped buying albums, as recently evidenced by the closing of the Virgin Megastore in Times Square. Music piracy is at an all time high. With that being said, a lot lies on a band producing a solid live show. You can't steal a concert. Even some of the best bands out there have a hard time making it, and the odds are certainly against them. Our film reveals the highs and lows of the concert industry. Eyes on the Back Door will showcase not only amazing musicians but America itself, as we will be making our way to all points of the country. Our goal is to have this film shown at both film and music festivals with a DVD release to follow. This is a film that will go all the way to 11.
