About Fairfield Orchards

Fairfield Orchards Ltd is a large-scale horticultural operation with apple & kiwifruit orchards scattered across the Motueka region. Our Head Office is based at 91 Umukuri Road, Riwaka. This is also the site for our modern Packhouse and Coolstore Complex. Fairfield is a second generation family-run business with husband and wife team Aaron and Cherie Drummond. In 1995 Aaron’s parents had a small orchard with apples and kiwifruit at the bottom of Takaka Hill in Riwaka. In 1999 after buying some smaller orchard blocks, Aaron convinced his Father, Chris, to plant a new variety of apple called “Jazz” at the Starnes road block and to move away from green kiwifruit to the new gold variety. Since 2000 Fairfield Orchards has been steadily growing and developing. Purchasing older orchards & redeveloping them into modern productive orchards has allowed the business to expand. The packhouse was moved from the original Hill site to here at Umukuri Road in 2009 and rebuilt as new modern facility with a new cool stores complex, in 2023 the packhouse underwent a full refit to incorporate automation of grading, packing and stacking procedures. Production has trebled in the last ten years and the focus is on consolidating the operation and improving systems. Fairfield Orchards is a great place to work and we’re making it better.
