Family Building Society is a trading name of National Counties Building Society. National Counties is the UK’s 11th largest building society, with over £2.2bn of assets and over 60,000 members. Established in 1896, National Counties is a mutual organisation, owned by its saving and borrowing members and therefore not subject to stock market fluctuations. It is independent and not a subsidiary of any larger group. The majority of its borrowings (over 80%) are raised by deposits from individuals.
