About Family Promise Metro East

Family Promise Metro East envisions a nation in which every family has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future. Homelessness has become a significant issue in Multnomah County and across Oregon. There are over 4,000 people experiencing homelessness in the county with at least half of them unsheltered and sleeping outside. The rate of homelessness in Portland has increased at twice the national average since 2018. Oregon has the 4th highest per capita rate of homelessness in the United States. There is a severe shortage of affordable housing in America, exacerbated by rising rents and stagnant wages. With little or no safety net, one unforeseen expense or emergency can lead to family homelessness. Family Promise Metro East is a new affiliate of a national organization using new and innovative ways of providing shelter to families while assisting them in securing sustainable, permanent housing through case management and a community based response. Faith communities, service organizations and individuals work together to provide a rotational model that keeps the burden light on any one group.
