About Family YMCA of Empora-Greensville
Led by a group of volunteers with the common vision of improving the quality of life in the Emporia-Greensville area, the Family YMCA of Emporia-Greensville was initially founded in August 2000. After eight months of fundraising, the Family YMCA of Emporia-Greensville opened as a store-front facility at 510 N. Main Street on June 27, 2001. After experiencing substantial growth and two expansions in the store-front facility, the Board of Directors decided a permanent facility would be necessary to further the YMCA’s impact in the community. Thus, the YMCA embarked on a partnership with the Greensville Memorial Foundation to build a $4.8 million facility. Having successfully secured $1.4 million in pledges for a capital campaign, construction of the new YMCA began in December 2008. The new 27,000+ square foot facility opened on November 10, 2009. Since then, the YMCA has woven itself into the fabric of our community.
