We administer one of the largest and most diverse territorial authorities in New Zealand. Our total land area is over 7000 square kilometres and our coastline is 1,800 kilometres. Our permanent population is only 55,000, scattered throughout the district in small communities and in rural areas. The infrastructure demands are substantial – the rating base is small. Yet, we are committed to delivering He Whenua Rangatira. We do this by careful planning and faultless execution. We succeed because we have a strong visionary Council of elected members, and skilled and committed staff.
