About Faraway Families

Faraway Families is a beautifully illustrated children’s book following best friends, Mae and Jae, two young girls who are learning to stay connected to their family members who do not live nearby. Spending time together, whether talking on the phone, video chatting, doing special activities or taking family vacations, helps build strong family connections for young children. The distances, modes of travel and communication vary but Mae and Jae share the experience of maintaining these special relationships when in-person visits are not possible as often as they would like. This is a story to show all children that: “Whether family or friends living near or far you are loved no matter where you are.” Our goals are to keep young children connected to their faraway family, as well as promote diversity and inclusion, and bring geography, culture and language learning to your young readers. This story stretches to all people from all places and all generations because… everybody has somebody who lives far away.
