The Dolby Family Farm has been in the family for just under 200 years and is located just over the border in Sussex County Delaware. Throughout the years, the farm has produced everything from cattle, to hogs, poultry, wine, corn and even watermelons! However, as with everything, the farm has undergone an evolution from the original heirloom farming, to modern day, and back to heirloom organics again. The reason for this is that the family decided to say no to the pesticides and chemicals used by many farms, and yes to the “farm to table” movement. With the economy in this state, the Dolby family has launched their own “grass roots” campaign. After letting many acres of their 200 acre farm lay dormant, they have decided to start a new with not only a new generation of farmers, but with an old generation of seeds. They are bringing back many heirloom varieties of tomatoes, artichokes, mushrooms, carrots, berries, herbs, beans, and squash. They are considering more varieties of plants and are open to suggestions, including flowers! Recently Sam and Andy, after getting fed-up with their local grocery stores prices and lack of quality, decided to revisit the “farm to plate” movement hence farmandplate.com They look forward to keeping you supplied with flavorful and nutritious heirloom vegetables, grown organically, for the upcoming months and hopefully years to come!
