About Farrar, Straus and Giroux
Farrar, Straus and Giroux was founded in 1946 by Roger W. Straus. Imprints include North Point Press, Hill and Wang, Faber and Faber, and FSG Books for Young Readers. The firm is renowned for its international list of literary fiction, nonfiction, poetry and children’s books. Farrar, Straus and Giroux authors have won extraordinary acclaim over the years, including numerous National Book Awards, Pulitzer Prizes, and twenty-one Nobel Prizes in literature. Poetry has always played a pivotal role on the FSG list, which boasts some of the greatest names in modern verse. Fiction has an even greater international reach, distinguished by Jonathan Franzen, Susan Sontag, and Scott Turow, to name a few. History, art history, natural history, current affairs and science round out a strong list in nonfiction represented by Thomas Friedman, William Langewiesche, and John McPhee, among others. Hill and Wang focuses on nonfiction written for the educated reader. The list is strong in American history, world history, and politics; among its authors are William Poundstone, Elie Wiesel, Sid Jacobson, and Ernie Colón. Faber and Faber, Inc., specializes in books on the arts and entertainment, pop culture, cultural criticism, and the media, with a special focus on film, theater, and music. Farrar Straus Giroux Books for Young Readers, launched in 1954, publishes books for toddlers through young adults. Our award-winning backlist includes three Caldecott Medal Books, nine Caldecott Honor Books, three Newbery Medal Books, nine Newbery Honor Books, three National Book Award winners, eleven National Book Award Finalists, three Michael L. Printz Honor Books, and two Robert F. Sibert Honor Books. In 1996 we added Frances Foster Books, and in 2002, Melanie Kroupa Books. Authors and illustrators are Natalie Babbitt, Alexandra Day, Madeleine L'Engle, Polly Horvath, Uri Shulevitz, David Small, William Steig, Sarah Stewart, Kate Banks, Jack Gantos, and Peter Sís.
