About Fashion Act Now

We are an activist community on a mission to challenge and transform the values behind our clothing systems, acknowledging that the throughput of the fashion industry needs to be reduced by 75-95%. Head to our website to become a member. Fashion Act Now urges a crisis response to dismantle the dominant globalised Fashion system predicated on growth, oppression and planned obsolescence. It calls that response Defashion, the role that Fashion must play in degrowth. Defashion is a transition to post-fashion clothing systems that are regenerative, local, fair, nurturing and sufficient for the needs of communities. Fashion Act Now are working on a major project - Our Common Market, an online destination for discovering and creating real fashion culture. Our Defashioning Education working group includes educators and students that have come together to develop talks and workshops on defashion aimed at higher education, schools, fashion professionals and the wider community. These talks bring together our perspectives on degrowth, decolonisation and the commons and explain the rationale for defashion. Our workshops aim to equip participants to become agents for shifting the paradigm.
