Feed the Streets, Feed the Homies is a project founded by young, Gambian American young women, Jankey Faye and Ruquaiya Monargent. “Feed the Homies Friday '' is a grassroots project which Faye and Monargent began in their own kitchen by cooking 50 hot meals for 50 people. Inspired by fasting and traditions of giving and goodwill, Faye and Monargent have continued to feed their houseless neighbors out of their own pockets each week since April 2022. They aim to feed as many of their houseless community members, affectionately referred to as “the homies,” as they can every Friday with a home-cooked meal. They believe in the power and direct action of providing emergency hot meals to Seattle’s most vulnerable population as a step to create understanding and drive positive change.
