About Filipinx American Student Organization (FASO)

FASO was founded in the Fall of 1992. This group of 15 students, considered the largest Southeast Asian language class at the time, wanted to connect with all the Tagalog students at the UW-Madison as well as other students or persons interested in learning the Filipino language and culture, i.e. those who came to the “Tagalog at the Terrace” or “Tagalog sa Teresa” sessions that began in the fall of 1990. They soon created what we now know as FASO, the Filipino American Student Organization- not just an organization, but a family to all. FASO has since become an active and very visible student organization in and out of the UW-Madison campus, creating numerous events and participating in programs with other university student organizations across the Midwest. The Filipinx American Student Organization (FASO) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a group of students deeply committed to the issues and experiences of Filipinx and Filipinx Americans. FASO aims to educate and spread awareness about Filipinx culture and history, to foster friendships and to identify with each other through educational, cultural, and social events and programming. FASO is based on the spirit of Bayanihan; the values of family, community, and exploring one’s sense of self.
