About Fire Service Women BC
With so few female firefighters spread across the country, opportunities are needed to provide local, majority-women, hands-on training and support. Meeting in person through various events allows sharing of everyday experiences, ultimately fostering resilience for underrepresented groups. Such strength diminishes the likelihood of leaving the profession, allowing numbers to grow and present further leadership opportunities. We aspire to have a working board composed of fire service professionals in BC, both union and non-union, including forestry, volunteer/paid-on-call, industrial and other unidentified groups. We founded the society with seven female representatives from the Union and Non-Union fire service. This not-for-profit society is to serve all women working in the fire service, inclusive of unionized members, paid on-call and volunteers, prevention, exempt fire chief officers, forestry, and industrial. We are inclusive of others who may be aspiring and working in areas unidentified. Our vision is to build a supportive and inclusive fire service that benefits all.
