About FixIT - Leeds

FixIT - Leeds is Leeds' own computer co-operative. We offer honest IT advice and repairs, as well as taking donations of old computers, refurbishing them and selling them on cheaply or using them in community projects. We have two main aims: making IT affordable and accessible to everyone, and the reduction of electronic waste. To this end we try to re-use as much as possible, assembling working PCs from bits of not-working ones. We also promote and encourage the use of free open-source software (Linux, etc.) We have been open since 2009, but only operating as a worker co-op since October 2013. FixIT - Leeds (Formerly Kaba (Mandinka for “stone”) was set up by Liberian asylum-seeker Moses in 2010, who was volunteering with Canopy Housing Co-op at the time, and wanted to bring new life to abandoned computers in the same way Canopy were rejuvenating empty homes. It is now a not-for-profit worker co-op employing three people, with a shop, a free-to-use internet cafe, and regular opening hours (see website.)
