About Florida Lions Eye Clinic

Created by the Bonita Springs Lions Club as an independent entity, the Florida Lions Eye Clinic is affiliated with Lions Clubs throughout the state. This collaboration brings onsite screenings and clinical care to many in underserved areas of the community, particularly in southwest Florida. Qualified patients can visit the Bonita Springs Clinic and receive a wide range of quality eye care services and medical treatments free of charge. In the recent past, the Clinic helped over 5,000 patients at no cost to them. In addition, over 300 eye surgeries were conducted at the Clinic, and hundreds were referred to outside surgery centers. Volunteer doctors—ophthalmologists and optometrists—throughout southwest Florida provided medical care, prescription drugs, and eyeglasses amounting to nearly $800,000 in free services. Patient comfort is a top priority for the Clinic. We serve patients from diverse backgrounds so cultural awareness and sensitivity are a key focus. Most of the staff is bilingual and can assist with translation and cultural awareness. The Clinic relies on the generosity of its supporters and their donations of time, talent, and treasure. Volunteers serve as the lifeblood of the Clinic who unselfishly give their time and talents. There are approximately 20 volunteer physicians and medical professionals who provide patient care while numerous others greet patients, offer translation services, and support administrative function. The Clinic, a nonprofit agency, relies exclusively on donor contributions and private grants for its operating revenue. The clinic partners with numerous local agencies—county health departments, United Way agencies, and other organizations such as Lee We Care and Collier County’s Physicians Lead Access Network (PLAN)—relying on them for patient referrals.
