About Flow Analysis Limited
Flow Analysis Ltd provides a consultancy service using computer simulations to aid design aimed primarily at the construction industry. It was founded in 2002 by Dr Nick May whose expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) began in 1986 in the demanding aerospace industry. There he developed an interest and expertise in the development of CFD software and its application to complex novel designs and in particular the area of turbulence modelling. He also wrote and contributed to several journal and conference papers during this time. Flow Analysis was founded based on the premise that this CFD expertise could be applied to a myriad of different applications and in particular to the construction industry, where the use of advanced simulation techniques were in their infancy at the time. The construction industry provided the opportunity to diversify and dynamic thermal simulation and daylight modelling (both relatively new technology areas) were quickly added to the services provided. Flow Analysis Ltd has been providing consultancy services in all areas of building simulation (CFD, dynamic thermal modelling, daylight and overshadowing) for over 15 years. The applications are numerous, but are mostly summarised below: • Building Regs PartL2A compliance and EPCs (as-designed and as-built) • Overheating assessments (including TM52, TM59, BB101) • Pedestrian comfort • Fume dispersal • Mechanical ventilation design • Natural ventilation design • Daylight assessments (based on daylight factors or climate-based modelling) • Overshadowing assessments caused by new developments on existing buildings (based on the BRE guidelines) We work on all building types of all sizes.
