"To eliminate the concept of waste means to design thing, products and systems from the very beginning on the understanding that waste does not exist - William McDonough" FLOWER MATTER is a pre-seed bio-based materials start-up, enabling a circularity and maximising the values of discarded cut flowers through regenerative design innovation. We divert flower waste from landfills, directly recyclable waste that comes with flowers, e.g. plastic packaging, rubber, and plastic tubes, to their proper recycling processes before processing every part of flower waste into innovative eco-friendly materials. Our sustainable material alternatives include; 1. Flaux (/floʊ/),is a nonwoven-textile/ flexible sheet/ leather-like material. The material contains flower petals (mainly rose and carnation) as the main ingredient and colour agent for the material. Hence, no artificial colourant, no oil-based ingredient or additive is needed—all natural: plastic-free. 2. Bio-(floral) Foam is made from 100% fibre from flower stems (mainly carnation and iris). The material aims to simulate and act as an alternative for floral Foam. Therefore, it has the properties to absorb and retain water together with the ability to hold flowers. 3. Flower Paper made of 100% pulp from various flower stems and leaves. Each paper contains only flower fibre and requires no additives. Each flower species gives a unique texture and aesthetic. The flower paper can be coloured with flower pigment derived from flower petals. Let's build a circular economy together and stay tuned for our upcoming materials.
