About FOCAS Canada
FOCAS (Foundation for Oromian Culture, Education, and Art Services) is a nonprofit organization committed to empowering immigrant and newcomer communities through education, poverty relief, sponsorship, settlement services, and advocacy for their rights. Founded on November 17, 2010, under the Alberta Society Act, FOCAS became a federally registered nonprofit under the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act on September 4, 2019. Based in Alberta, FOCAS runs a variety of programs aimed at supporting newcomers and vulnerable populations. These include tutoring and mentoring for schoolchildren, adult and women’s education, food hampers for those in need, COVID-19 awareness initiatives, sponsorship and resettlement support, and advocacy for community rights and responsibilities, among many other vital services.
