About Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County (TX)
Since 1998, the Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County has been a cornerstone of support, offering supplemental food to up to one-third of households in the county. Our mission is clear: to alleviate hunger and promote healthy eating among residents in need. We operate on the belief that no one in Jeff Davis County should go hungry. We live in a food desert where affordable fresh produce is scarce, but we stand out by sourcing fresh produce from a wholesale grocer. In 2023, we invested $46,548 in 102,480 pounds of fresh produce, making up nearly 40% of all the food we distributed. Unfortunately, Jeff Davis County ranks #1 out of 254 counties in Texas for school-age child poverty and #6 nationally. Our public schools have no cafeterias and do not participate in the National School Lunch Program. We have three children's programs to address the issue. Our Pack-a-Lunch program is specifically designed for school-age food pantry clients. Kids Pantry at the JDC Library is a unique food pantry model of operation with no applications, no income guidelines, and no personal information collected. No judgment, no stigma. Open to all children - infant through high school graduation. Our In-School Snacks program provides daily, healthy, in-school snacks for all FDISD students. We take pride in our innovative approach to addressing food insecurity in our community. With multiple distribution locations, the option of online ordering, text reminders, home deliveries for homebound clients (and lots more!), we ensure accessibility and convenience for everyone. Our remote location and small population don't limit our forward-thinking and client-centered approach. We are dedicated to serving our community without judgment, embracing kindness, compassion, empathy, and generosity in every action.
