Fortune Avenue is a nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the severe wealth disparity in Boston, where the average net worth of Black families is just $8 compared to $247,000 for white families. Our mission is to empower underrepresented and less affluent communities by providing accessible financial education and exposing them to lucrative careers in finance. At Fortune Avenue, we believe that knowledge is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. Our programs are designed to make financial literacy easy to understand and actionable, ensuring that individuals can make informed decisions about their money. We achieve this through a range of initiatives, including our Club/Chapter Model, where schools gain access to a comprehensive catalog of financial education materials. These clubs, led by local college students majoring in finance and supported by high school leaders and advisors, deliver education directly to students in a way that resonates with their experiences and aspirations. Beyond the classroom, we connect students with financial professionals who share their career journeys, offering insights into fields like investment banking, hedge fund management, and private equity. Our Seasonal Summits bring these concepts to life through engaging, hands-on activities and competitions, all designed to inspire the next generation of financial leaders. We also harness the power of social media, particularly TikTok and Instagram, to reach our primary youth audience with creative, relatable content that makes financial concepts accessible and relevant. Additionally, we engage with local communities through in-person events that offer financial planning guidance, complete with Haitian and Spanish translators to ensure no one is left behind.
