The name Fouled Leash is inspired by the Naval fouled anchor, a symbol of heritage, strength, and pride. For handlers, however, a “fouled leash” is something a whole lot less impressive: one of the lamest excuses for not working the dog. We’ve all heard it (or maybe even said it): • “The dog falsed because of the leash.” • “I tripped over the leash.” • “I’m not worried about the dog’s legs being tangled up.” At the end of the day, the leash isn’t the problem, the handler is. A fouled leash doesn’t stop a good rep, a strong search, or a dog ready to work. It just highlights when the handler is making excuses. So Fouled Leash isn’t about gear or tangles, it’s about accountability. It’s our inside joke and our reminder: the leash doesn’t train the dog, the handler does. And sometimes, the handler can suck.
