Fraunhofer’s audio coding business is the primary developer of MP3 and AAC and is the authoritative source of many standardized audio and video codecs, including the latest generation of AAC, xHE-AAC, and the most complete immersive and personalized sound system today, MPEG-H. Fraunhofer also offers related headphone, automotive, and smart speaker ingredients. These products are key enabling technologies in new media, electronic music distribution, and television and radio broadcasting. AAC is the audio codec of the iPhone and iPad, the surround sound codec of Google Play movies and Android, and the audio codec for at least half the world’s digital TV. MPEG-H is the immersive audio codec for new TV broadcasting in Korea and Brazil, and the basis of the 360 Reality Audio format used for immersive music. LC3 is the new low-latency codec for Bluetooth Low Energy and Auracast. Fraunhofer codecs are estimated to be in ten billion devices.
