Freelancers Insurance Company (FIC) was founded in 2008 in New York State, in order to provide health insurance for independent workers. We're a social-purpose company owned by Freelancers Union, whose members are our only customers. Since 2001, Freelancers Union has been helping New York's independent workers get affordable group health insurance. By bringing together thousands of members, the organization was able to negotiate more favorable rates with big insurers. Now that Freelancers Union has started Freelancers Insurance Company, its members will be able to stay with one insurance carrier that Freelancers Union owns and controls.
