Afghanistan has since long remained a fragile country with incessant clashes, wars and insurgencies. Coupled with the major issues of insecurity and instability, the people of Afghanistan are challenged by numerous other issues such as poverty, food insecurity, natural disasters, illiteracy and gender discrimination, to name a few. There are very poor systems for social services such as housing, education and health. Access to high quality healthcare is one of the biggest challenges in Afghanistan. In such a situation, the presence of French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC) is no less than a miracle. FMIC is a non-profit tertiary hospital based in Kabul, Afghanistan. Since its establishment in 2006, FMIC has been providing quality health care and referral services to the Afghan people with special focus on children and mothers. Its services include: inpatient care, clinical consultations, diagnostic services, laboratory testing, eHealth, 24/7 pharmacy services, and advanced surgeries. Besides that, FMIC’s Post-Graduate Medical Education Program (PGME) has been instrumental in imparting advanced training to Afghan physicians, with the goal to develop long-term local capacity.
