About Friends of Moorfields Eye Hospital
Friends of Moorfields is a thriving, active, member-led charity which has been supporting patients and staff at Moorfields Eye Hospital for 60 years. Our vision is that everyone who comes to Moorfields, for whatever reason, has the best possible experience. We help ensure this through our 350-strong volunteer service, our Health Information Hub, our work with young patients and the play team, our small grants for patient experience improvements, and more. What we do: • Manage almost 350 volunteers across several sites to support patients and to work alongside the staff at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, doing everything from welcoming and guiding to admin support and accompanying anxious patients into theatre • Operate the Health Information Hub at Moorfields City Road, providing accessible, non-medical, Moorfields-approved information, signposting and support for patients and carers • Provide grants for staff posts, such as Health Play Specialists who support young patients and help them to understand and cope with their visit • Run the hospital shop at Moorfields City Road, selling food, snacks, drinks, newspapers and magazines along with a variety of gifts and branded items • Sponsor artwork, music, fish tanks, flower beds and other projects which help provide a welcoming and relaxing environment • Fundraise to allow us to continue our vital work Patient experience is at the heart of everything we do, and our team of staff and volunteers work tirelessly throughout Moorfields to support our medical and nursing colleagues, as well as the Trust’s management team in providing excellence in patient care.
