About Friends Of The North Fork Of The Shenandoah River
Friends of the North Fork has been an active voice for the health of the river since 1988. Our primary program areas are education, science, and advocacy. We engage volunteers for river clean-ups, monitoring, and various other activities. In 2014 we became the official “community support organization” for Seven Bends State Park. Friends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River Inc. is a private, nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, governed by a volunteer board of directors who report to our members at the annual meeting each Spring. Our Executive Director leads a small paid staff based out of our office in Woodstock, Virginia. Friends’ annual operating budget runs about $150,000 or more annually. We are supported by about 350 member households and businesses from around the Valley and points beyond. Our River Is Our Great Connector Our river and its watershed connect us all. Just as each stream and tributary is integral to the river’s quality and flow, every person and their actions in our watershed are integral to the health of our community. We collectively share in the enjoyment of, stewardship of, and responsibility for the North Fork. We all have the right to equitable access to the ecological, aesthetic, recreational, economic, and social benefits that the river provides. Friends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River (FNFSR) commits to bringing more diverse voices representing a broader range of different perspectives into the work we do in order to make our great connector healthier and more equitably accessible for all.
