About FT Architects
The studios philosophy is centered on site-specific design - buildings that develop as a direct response to their environment. A study of the site and its rhythms directs the design creating fluid spaces between people and nature. Responsible design is integral to all work coming out of the studio. Renewable energy systems and alternative building practices are implemented through continual research in these fields locally and internationally. Work is done in consultation with energy solution professionals to achieve buildings that use optimal energy in their total life cycle. The underlying principle is that buildings must have the capacity to evolve over time. Intervention with existing structures is encouraged minimising unnecessary demolition and incorporating elements of the existing building into the new building wherever appropriate. The focus is to create dynamic spaces that activate interaction between architecture and landscape. Buildings are perceived as living organisms shaped by the needs of their users and communities as well as the ecology, history and culture of their context. Ultimately the quality of ones environment impacts directly on the quality of ones experience.
