About Fujisan Winery
We are a family owned and managed winery at the slopes of the majestic Mount Fuji in Fujinomiya, Japan. We are located a scenic two hour drive from Tokyo nestled adjacent to the famous Aokigahara Forest. Fujisan Winery creates world-class wines using a local indigenous varietal called Koshu to match Japanese cuisine. Recently we embarked on a new project and released our “Fresh Wine Collection,” introducing high quality wines from around the world which are bottled locally in order to deliver better quality at even more reasonable price. The Japan Wine Project started in 2003 with the idea to create world class wine suited to match Japanese cuisine. These wines were to be produced form the native varietal Koshu which produces wines with a high natural acidity and delicate flavors. This combination combines perfectly with typical Japanese cuisine. In 2006 the project began producing Koshu from grapes grown in a VSP (Vertical Shoot Positioning) system. This is the method used worldwide for growing high quality wine grapes, much different from the majority of Japanese grapes grown on a pergola trellis. These different styles of grape growing provide us with two very distinct styles of wine. Due to the growing success of the project in 2012 Fujisan Winery was constructed. Since then our vineyard area has expanded and Koshu wine production increased. We now produce three unique Koshu styles in our 'Shizen' range. Our goal moving forward is to continue improving our vineyard and winemaking practices, constantly striving towards the true potential of this unique varietal. We truly believe Koshu is capable of producing remarkable wines unlike any other varietal, by striving towards this potential we aim to show the world something uniquely created in Japan.
