About Functional Creative Design

Functional Creative Design is New York City based collaborative multi-disciplinary studio founded in 2014 with a focus on the hospitality industry. The studio is dedicated to creating innovative, functional spaces for both the users and staff operating within, thus fusing form + function. Functional Creative Design is a collective of individuals with a range of backgrounds in architecture, interior design, fashion, graphic and fine arts. The team uses an integrated approach, utilizing and working closely with local artists, artisans, sub-contractors and builders. Sustainability is a core driver in the studios approach, looking for ways to reduce waste and reuse whenever possible. The Studio is inspired by natural architectural materials paired with woven textiles that can be used for furniture and interior architecture details. Managing partner and founder Sarah Abdallah draws on her professional background as well as degrees in Fine Arts, Psychology and minor degrees in Art Therapy, Art and Technology and Interior Design. Prior to launching the studio Sarah worked with several world renowned Design and Architecture Firms in NYC. In this work she helped to conceive the brick and mortar identities of new brands and businesses. Developing new spins on prevailing trends connecting a new fresh perspective to individual brand stories. Functional Creative Design team develops a wide range of custom furniture that is specific to each project, working with trusted manufacturers from concept to final product. The team works with clients through all phases of the project to ensure a client’s programmatic requirements seamlessly integrate into the space. The studio's growing portfolio of work includes single and multi-family residences, an elevated restaurant, and nightlife experiences.
