About Fundacja MARE

The MARE Foundation was established in 2016 with a mission to protect marine ecosystems by striving for social and political change. We dream of a future in which the society is environmentally sensitive and ecologically aware and lives in harmony with seas and oceans. For a future in which the seas and oceans are vibrant with life and are not constantly exposed to the negative effects of human activity. The MARE Foundation focuses its activities especially on the Baltic Sea and ecological processes occurring in the sea in order to protect biodiversity and improve the quality of life. We protect the Baltic for all beings and for the future generations. As part of its activities, the Foundation carries out projects on sustainable fisheries, shipwreck management, and marine litter (including ghost nets and plastics). Except for the subjects addressed by the ongoing projects, in its educational activities MARE pays special attention to climate change and biodiversity crisis, as these are the most crucial environmental issues of our times. We believe that a good state of the Baltic Sea can be achieved only through a holistic approach and we initiate multisectoral and interdisciplinary collaborations to initiate the necessary change - including cooperation with scientific institutions, government, small and big scale business and artists in various fields.
