About Galeria Pelaires
Pelaires’ main goal is to reflect the complexity and multiplicity of the current art scene, providing a platform for artists working with diverse languages and aesthetic approaches. The gallery represents its artists with rigorous commitment, producing their work, showcasing it at international fairs, collaborating with curators, and fostering professional exchanges with other galleries. Additionally, it maintains a close connection to its local territory, supporting young artists from the island. Since its inception, the gallery has consistently exhibited and represented international artists, often showcasing their work in Mallorca and, in many cases, in Spain for the first time. Founded in 1969 by Pep Pinya in Palma's historic center, the gallery became a meeting point for figures like Miró, Picasso, Tàpies, Chillida, and Beuys. In 1990, it moved to a historic 17th-century building that now hosts year-round exhibitions across its two floors. In 2012, Frederic Pinya launched a new phase focusing on contemporary artists such as Carlos Amorales, Gregor Hildebrandt, and Jason Martin, alongside a particular emphasis on women artists including Rebecca Horn, Alicja Kwade, Jorinde Voigt, and Ana Laura Aláez, among others. This renewal combines projects by young and mid-career artists with exhibitions of established 20th- and 21st-century creators connected to Pelaires' legacy. In 2019, the gallery inaugurated Pelaires Cabinet, a small space on the first floor dedicated to young creators and site-specific projects, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and support for emerging talent.
