About Galleria Lia Rumma
Lia Rumma Gallery was founded in Naples in 1971, inaugurating with Joseph Kosuth’s solo exhibition “L’ottava investigazione (A.A.I.A.I.), proposizione 6.” From the outset, the gallery played a key role in identifying new artistic trends on the international scene, engaging with movements such as Arte Povera, Minimal Art, Land Art, and Conceptual Art. Over the years, it has presented both established and emerging artists, including Marina Abramović, Giovanni Anselmo, Alberto Burri, Gino De Dominicis, Donald Judd, William Kentridge, Anselm Kiefer, Robert Longo, Reinhard Mucha, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Haim Steinbach, Thomas Ruff, and many others. In 1999, Lia Rumma expanded to Milan, opening a space in the Brera district with a solo exhibition by Enrico Castellani. For a decade, the Milan venue hosted site-specific projects complementing the exhibitions in Naples. In 2010, the gallery inaugurated a new 2,000-square-meter, three-level building in Milan with Ettore Spalletti’s solo exhibition. Designed as a space for art and artists, this venue became a pivotal site for cultural exchange and marked a fundamental step in the gallery’s history. Since then, the Milan gallery has hosted monumental exhibitions and projects by artists such as Marina Abramović, Vanessa Beecroft, Victor Burgin, Clegg & Guttmann, Gary Hill, Alfredo Jaar, Ilya & Emilia Kabakov, William Kentridge, Anselm Kiefer, Joseph Kosuth, David Lamelas, Luca Monterastelli, Reinhard Mucha, Ugo Mulas, Thomas Ruff, Haim Steinbach, Tobias Zielony, and Gilberto Zorio. Also in 2010, the historic Naples location was expanded and renovated, reopening with a solo exhibition by Marzia Migliora. The gallery continued its program dedicated to both emerging and established contemporary artists, working closely with institutions to promote art in public spaces.
