About Galveston County WCID #1
Galveston County Water Control and Improvement District #1 (WCID #1) provides drinking water, wastewater and contracted solid waste collection services to more than 8,000 households and businesses in the greater Dickinson area. The district operates and maintains an extensive water delivery system, including water lines, water storage tanks, pump stations, and monitoring systems. It buys drinking water from the Gulf Coast Water Authority. The district also operates four water wells and a wastewater treatment plant. AmeriWaste Solutions Inc. is contracted to provide solid waste collection services for the district’s customers. Services include garbage collection, curbside recycling pickup by subscription and brush pickup. The district has four divisions: Operations, Maintenance, Customer Service and Administration. It is governed by a board of five members elected at large for 4-year terms on even-numbered years. The board meets on the third Monday of each month at 2320 Falco Street in Dickinson. Established by the Texas legislature in 1938, WCID #1 is the oldest water district in the state.
