About Gapz

Gapz is an e-learning resource website to be launched early in 2010. It is primarily for teachers of English but other subject teachers will find it a valuable tool to support them with revision, homework and computer lab time. Gapz provides self-access learning materials for students. It is an exceptional way to help students improve vocabulary, comprehension and information retention. Based on well-established cloze principles, Gapz allows teachers/authors to create texts and the Gapz process allows them to manipulate texts by blanking out the words they wish their teachers/solvers to focus upon. Teachers can blank out every other word, every third word, every fourth word or just the words they choose. There is also a Total Gapz with all words blanked out - excellent to get students to focus on vocabulary and structure. Gapz makes learning poetry, stories, song lyrics, lines of plays, driving test rules etc easy. As an author AND a solver, students can put their own texts in and gradually increase the difficulty until they know a text by heart. Gapz may also be used by companies who want a straightforward method to roll out standards and procedures throughout the workforce. E.g. Health and Safety policies can be put through the Gapz engine and the resulting "puzzles" put onto an intranet for staff to demonstrate their reading and understanding. Last, but definitely not least, Gapz can be a fun peer-to-peer puzzle. Users can author puzzles for their friends to solve.
