About GARDEN project
GARDEN: Grid-Aware Decarbonization of Electricity-driven Neighbourhoods The GARDEN project is tackling the challenges posed by the expansion of photovoltaics, heat pumps and electric vehicles in local power grids. The aim is to create “Positive Energy Districts” (PEDs) - i.e. neighborhoods that manage their own energy requirements and reduce the load on the power grid. To this end, GARDEN wants to develop an easily replicable system that supports communities in using energy sustainably and flexibly without overloading the grid infrastructure. Three test areas in Austria, Switzerland and Turkey are being used to examine how such districts can function. With the right tools and business models, citizens, municipalities and grid operators will work together to find solutions to use energy in a smart way and accelerate the energy transition. GARDEN is co-funded by the Horizon Europe research and innovation funding programme and the FFG.
