WHAT WE'RE FOCUSED ON People in the early stages of their digestive health journey lack the evidence and awareness needed to manage symptoms, advocate for themselves, and utilize care services efficiently. A mix of generalized health insights, high user burden, and difficulty accessing care leave patients anxious and unmotivated to stay engaged in their care management. This population faces increased risk of symptom progression and developing serious health complications. BIG PICTURE IMPACT Over 99 million adults in the U.S. suffer from Disorders of Gut-Brain interaction (DGBIs), which are uniquely influenced by biological, psychological, and social interactions. Not only do these diseases impact mental health and wellbeing, they affect productivity and belonging. Annual healthcare expenditures for gastrointestinal disease total $112 billion, that’s greater than trauma and mental health care. ABOUT THE FOUNDER Carlos Morla is a product designer turned startup founder. He has battled with IBS, GERD, and other digestive complications for over 20 years. He’s building GKM from a personal need and desire to help others like him feel better and stay engaged in their digestive care journey.
