Gate Science is a clinical stage company developing the first and only SINGLE solution to manage the entire cycle of pain associated with major surgery. Currently available non-opioid pain therapies provide pain relief for 3 days, but pain after surgery can last for weeks. Gate Science is focused on a solution to address the "The Therapeutic Gap" - the time after day 3 when opioids still remain the cornerstone for pain control. The team is led by co-founders who have started six successful companies and launched nine products in the orthopedic space. Gate Science’s novel medical device, RELAY, combines two established treatment modalities: Nerve Block, commonly used to treat surgical pain, and Neurostimulation, commonly used to treat chronic pain; to safely silence pain for up to 28 days after surgery. RELAY fits into standard clinical routines. RELAY is placed by the anesthesiologist prior to surgery to deliver a primary Nerve Block. Neurostimulation is activated in the recovery room. With the waxing and waning of pain in the weeks following surgery, the patient controls the amplitude of Neurostimulation with a smartphone app, Gate Keeper. The Gate Keeper app uniquely provides entrée to the digital realm. Gate's initial focus is orthopedic surgeries (18 million procedures annually), prioritizing: knee, shoulder, and foot and ankle.
